is Krav Maga the Same as Traditional Martial Arts?

No. Krav Maga is a lot different than the traditional martial arts in the fact that most traditional forms of Karate are rigid, dogmatic and teaching the same thing for years upon years. Depending on the kind there is a large element of the “art” aspect. A lot of other styles also tend to move more towards the sport aspect with many rules limiting the practitioner. Krav Maga is different.

Krav Maga is a no rules, go home safe real life self defense style. Within krav maga we train to defend ourselves from positions of disadvantage. We run drills that create real life situations where we may be disoriented, fatigued, stressed, etc…THEN we need to fight for our life. We aren’t always pretty but we always get the job done.

Does Krav Maga Have a Ton of Techniques That I'm Going to Have to Learn?

Krav Maga’s approach is to have the least amount of defenses as possible. We try to find one general movement that will defend the most amount of attacks as possible. It would be impractical to teach a different defense to every attack you may face, and impossible to remember them all. That is why Krav Maga is taught off of principles versus techniques which leads to a simpler, more refined system that is easy to remember under stress. It is designed to reduce your options so you don’t freeze when presented with a life threatening situation but instead are able to react decisively and aggressively to eliminate the threat ensuring that you and your loved ones are safe.

I Have my Free Trial Class Set! What Can I Expect?

First things first. We do train in shoes. I know, I know….not what you might have expected but we like to keep our training as realistic as possible and not often do we walk around barefoot. When you come in please dress in any sort of pants, shirt and shoes you feel comfortable moving around in.

Also any time you try something new it is always a little nerve wrecking (But Exciting) going outside your comfort zone. If you would like to bring a friend to try the class with you just mention it when setting your trial class and we would be happy to add them to our calendar too!

Lastly, this is an exciting time and a day your child is sure to remember so if possible try to have both parents there! It is always great to see the program first hand and we know the kids love to look over to see if their Mom and Dad are seeing their new moves!
