🚶♀️ What to Do If You’re Being Followed
A Self-Defense Guide for Women Who Want to Feel Safe Before Anything Happens
You’re walking to your car.
Or out of the store.
Or just heading home after a workout.
And then—that feeling.
Someone’s behind you. Close.
Too close.
They’ve turned when you turned.
They’ve slowed when you’ve slowed.
And your gut starts whispering: “You’re not alone.”
At California Defense Academy, we train women to trust that voice. Because when it comes to personal safety, it’s not about being paranoid. It’s about being prepared.
This blog will walk you through what to do step-by-step if you think someone is following you—so you can move through the world with more power, less fear.
🧠 First: Listen to Your Gut
Your intuition picks up on red flags long before your brain can articulate them.
The moment something feels off, act as if it’s real. Because if you wait for proof, it may already be too late.
You don’t have to explain or justify your actions to anyone. If your gut says move, then move.
🚨 What To Do If You Think You’re Being Followed
1. Change Direction—Intentionally
Make a sudden turn. Cross the street. Go around a building or loop back.
If the person mirrors your movements multiple times—it’s not a coincidence.
💡 Pro Tip: Walk toward public, well-lit, and populated areas.
2. Don’t Go Home
If you’re near your house or car and you’re being followed, do not go there.
You don’t want to reveal where you live or where you’re parked.
Instead:
Walk into a business, restaurant, or busy gas station.
Tell the cashier or employee, “I think someone’s following me. Can I stay here and call someone?”
Most people will help you. And if they won’t? Find someone who will.
3. Pull Out Your Phone (Even if You Don’t Call)
Pretend to be on the phone with someone. Say loudly:
“Yeah, I see you now. I’m right outside Target. Can you come out and meet me?”
“I’m walking toward the police station right now. I’ll wait for you there.”
This lets a potential follower know that:
✅ Someone knows where you are
✅ Someone is on their way
✅ You’re not going to be an easy target
4. Make a Scene if You Have To
If the situation escalates, this is not the time to be polite.
Say loudly and clearly:
“STOP FOLLOWING ME.”
“I DON’T KNOW YOU—LEAVE ME ALONE.”
“BACK OFF.”
Draw attention. Get loud. Let others know you are not okay.
In Krav Maga, we teach that your voice is a weapon. Use it.
5. Keep Moving. Don’t Freeze.
Predators look for hesitation.
The best thing you can do is keep moving with purpose, head up, and make decisions quickly.
If you need to run—run.
If you need to duck into a business—do it.
If you need to call 911—do it without apology.
Your job isn’t to figure out if you’re being dramatic.
Your job is to go home safe.
🥋 What We Teach at California Defense Academy
In our adult Krav Maga classes, we focus on:
✔ Situational awareness and prevention
✔ Using your voice and body language as defense
✔ What to do if you're grabbed, cornered, or followed
✔ How to train under stress so you don’t freeze when it counts
We don’t teach fantasy. We teach real-life readiness.
Because most attacks don’t start with a fight—they start with a feeling.
✨ Final Thought
If you think you’re being followed, trust yourself.
You don’t need to wait until something happens to justify your reaction.
You don’t owe anyone an explanation for walking into a store, making a fake call, or shouting in public.
You don’t have to be fearless.
You just have to be ready.
🖤💚
Stay sharp. Stay aware. Stay safe.
